About Us

Discover your creative potential at our weekly art workshops, held in a beautiful, private studio floor at Taphouse.
Level 1, 122 Flinders St, Darlinghurst, Sydney.

We host workshops every Wednesday evening from 6.30 – 9pm.
Come by commitment free to a drop-in workshop, or build a beautiful collection of work at a discounted rate with our courses.

Magnolia Studio was established to share knowledge about the skills of artistry, with a focus on craft and practical tools, while also creating a space to spread the joy inherent in the art making process itself. We enjoy creating an inclusive community, where art lovers can connect.

Unlike other workshops, we do not simply copy paintings, we teach techniques to create individual artworks. Guided by our experienced instructor, even complete beginners will leave with an array of new skills & the confidence to create.

All our workshops are beginner friendly, while still offering new skills & insights to more experienced artists.

I heard there are free tickets! How do I claim one?

Yes, we have an unbeatable loyalty card system – after just 4 classes, your 5th class is completely free. Loyalty cards are stamped at each event.

To claim your free workshop, simply notify us the day before the class you’d like to attend, and if there are free slots, one will be reserved for you.

Do we all copy the same image?

Our workshops are different from our competitors.
Everyone receives a wide variety of reference images to choose from and selects their own, ensuring your work is unique.
You will be guided every step of the way on how to create your artwork, and leave with new skills that can be transferred to other art projects.

What happens if I can't make a class?

If you have paid for a class and are unable to attend, please notify the school as soon as possible and you will be issued a credit for a future class.
No-shows will not be given credits.

I've never made art before. Is this right for me?

Absolutely.
Even complete beginners are welcomed, and will be given step-by-step instruction at their level. There are many beginners at our workshops, and we are happy to provide a safe and welcoming space for beginner artists to explore their potential.

What other workshops will be available?

We like to mix up our workshops weekly to keep it fresh & exciting.
We rotate between watercolour, ink, graphite drawing, charcoal drawing, acrylic painting and mixed media.
Our subject matters range from landscapes to botanicals, nature-inspired patterns, still-life, portraiture, animals, experimental & meditative art workshops and more.

Meet your teacher, Bianca Ruh.

Not only is she an actively exhibiting artist, but she’s also an experienced art educator for both children and adults, with additional experience as a caring social worker. This means we provide a welcoming space for everyone to explore their inner artist, no matter their background or needs.

Bianca spent 6 years living as an artist in Berlin and has returned to Sydney as an internationally exhibited artist & passionate art educator. She has a speciality in oil painting, but loves all art mediums.
